ABOUT VENTURESUM

In the summer of 1993, “Bit Bi-Logic” sprang to life as a one person firm providing computer services and facility data collection for energy and telecommunications companies. Operating out of a home office that would later become his first daughter’s nursery, Joey Johnson listened through the squeaks and whirs of a 14.4k modem as it connected to his online CompuServe account. The evening had followed a day full of driving around looking at poles, then using a red ballpoint pen to draw symbols on paper maps that were provided by the local electric company. This was the beginning of what is now known as VentureSum Corporation.

Prior to starting VentureSum Corporation, Joey began his utility industry work while still attending high school. At only fourteen years of age, he began working for a communications contractor as a lineman. After graduation, he went to work for the newly formed TICS Corporation in Charlotte, NC. Following twelve years of working in management and engineering at TICS, Joey decided to resign and apply the lessons he had  learned to his own business.

From day one, the decision was made to go against industry standards and hire field workers into full-time positions with full benefits, company vehicles, and all expenses paid. The business  model called for professionally trained field auditors that could perform accurate data collection on a superior level. In addition, a “family environment” would provide better job satisfaction, less stress, and ultimately better service to our customers. After twenty-seven years, the VentureSum model continues to go strong. 

Since 1993, VentureSum has served over 35 electric utilities, 200 communications carriers, and inventoried over 40-million pole attachments. We have over twenty-five years of reliable data collection and customer service under our belt, and we aren’t planning on stopping any time soon. We strive to maintain a safe workplace for our field and office staff in which our culture of excellence and community thrives.
